Helen's Corner - Book I
Books To Read
Soiled pages, words that are blurred
Broken covers; fuzzy and furred
Small pictures; coloring all faded
So hard to reddit, so hard to date it.
Still they are books to read
Dusty and yellow; crumpled with age
Pieces and parts; torn off each page
Once they were thought of, as bright
and new
Now they are old books, to me and you
Yet they are books to read.
Circa 1941-1942
Background ▶︎Mom often to ld a story about a Christmas basket that her family received that had a book in it called "The Wide, Wide World". She said it was the first book she ever had. Indeed, I found on her bookshelf a very worn but still usable copy of this book. The basket came from the First Presbyterian Church in Carbondale, PA where my parents became members. |
